UPRR Intermodal – Von Ormy, TX (Started Aug. ’07)

Scope Highlights:
- 220+ Acre Site with almost 3.75 million square feet in Concrete Paving
- Over 1 million cubic yards of on-site soil, 750K square yards of lime stabilization, 450K tons of Flex Base (paving and sub-ballast)
- 26K linear feet of 12” perforated pipe and 23K linear feet of RCP storm pipe

Opportunities and Challenges:
This 14 month project presented a number of opportunities. Our Value Engineering contributions not only eliminated all needed import fill, but also resulted in a potential 10% reduction in grading cost. The tight schedule was overcome by a substantial commitment of tools and manpower, innovative GPS modeling, and a commitment by upper management to control as much site activity as possible. While the vast majority of the site work was self-performed, quality second-tier subcontractors (including Austin Bridge & Road) were included in our package to perform concrete paving and RCP installation.
